Technical work.
Almost no evidence.
Proactive Building Solutions monitors NYC properties across more than forty city agencies and resolves violations before they escalate into fines, stop-work orders, and stalled sales. The work is genuinely technical. The company had been doing it for years.
The website was three pages long.
It named the company, gestured at what it did, and stopped. The services PBS actually performs — each with its own process, timeline, and agency relationship — were compressed into a paragraph. The PBS Alert System, the thing that separates the company from every competitor in the category, sat on the site as a feature nobody could connect to anything.
A property manager holding an open DOB violation could read the entire website and still not know whether PBS could help.
Compliance buyers do not browse. They scan for evidence.
Compliance buyers arrive anxious. There is a letter on the desk, a deadline attached to it, and a cost that grows weekly. That buyer does not browse. They scan for evidence that you have handled their exact situation, and if they cannot find it in seconds, they call the next firm.
Three pages gave them nothing to find. It gave search engines almost nothing to index either — in a category where people search by violation type and agency name, not by “property compliance.”
The alert system made this worse rather than better. Presented in isolation, it read as a software feature. Its actual value — that PBS sees a problem before the client does — was never made explicit.
We built the site around services,
not around the company.
Working directly with owner Jon Credendino, we mapped every service PBS performs and gave each one its own page, with its own process, scope, and outcome. Three pages became sixteen. A visitor with a specific problem now lands on the page for that specific problem — and sixteen pages of substantive, distinct content replaced three pages of summary.
We made the alert system the connective tissue.
Rather than treating monitoring as a separate product, we wrote it into every service page as the mechanism underneath. All sixteen pages now answer the same implicit question — how would you even know? — with the same answer. The alert system stopped being a feature and became the reason the services work.
Show the interface layer designed by Monotone; the underlying infrastructure is client-owned.
We wrote from the violation, not the service name.
Copy leads with the situation the reader is in, then names what PBS does about it. Language follows how owners and managers describe their problems, not how the compliance industry categorises them.
Use two screens minimum to show the system holding together across breakpoints.
We redesigned the alert system interface to match.
The underlying alert infrastructure was built by a previous agency and remains PBS’s system. Our work was the interface: making a real-time, multi-agency data feed readable at a glance, and visually continuous with the site around it, so the product a client sees after signing up matches the one they were sold.
Crop the point where the Alert System is integrated into a specific service narrative.
We built discoverability in from the structure up.
Search, answer-engine, and AI-surface visibility were designed into the information architecture rather than added afterwards — service pages, agency coverage, and process detail all structured to be retrievable and quotable by the systems people now use to find compliance help.
One system.
Seven connected outputs.
- 01Positioning and messaging strategy
- 02Full website copy across 16 service pages
- 03UI and UX design
- 04Front-end development
- 05Search, answer-engine, and AI-visibility optimisation (SEO, AEO, GEO, AIO)
- 06Email marketing
- 07Interface redesign for the existing PBS Alert System

Measured independently.
Reported plainly.
The finished homepage was measured with Google Lighthouse. The figures below are a standalone quality signal, not a before-and-after comparison.
Lighthouse 13.0.2, pbs.nyc homepage, 25 June 2026, emulated desktop.
Launched July 2025 after a four-month engagement. PBS now runs sixteen service pages in place of a three-page brochure, with the alert system explained inside every service it supports rather than sitting beside them.
PBS’s own numbers.
Not Monotone outcomes.
PBS reports monitoring properties and resolving violations across agencies including DOB, FDNY, DOT, HPD, DEP, LPC, and ECB.
These are the client’s business figures, reported by PBS. They describe the scale of the operation the website was built to represent — not outcomes produced by Monotone.
Your services are more complicated
than your website admits.
If prospects are arriving informed and leaving confused, that is a structure problem, not a traffic problem.
